Film Review: Blancanieves

Blancanieves, just means, Snow White, in Spanish. Which is exactly what it is, a movie about Snow White! A Spanish black & white silent movie set in 1920s Seville. And it is wonderful. I have to admit I was first apprehensive to whether or not I’d like it, but ended up going to see it with a friend at it’s premier during the BFI Film Festival in London end of last year & found it ‘thoroughly enjoyable’.

Though this Snow White is not a meek Disney princess, but a stunning bull fighter who travels around Spain with her troupe of bull fighting midgets who absolutely adore her. The evil witch is a horrid stepmother and Snow White’s father is in the picture this story around. That said, director Pablo Berger brings old Hollywood cinematic glamour back, with this charming gem. Click here for the trailer.
